Personal Profile:

Dr. Wang received his bachelor degree in Bioengineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China in 2009. He took his graduate study in the Department of Biochemistry of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from 2009 and 2014. He has been a visiting student to Duke University Medical Center in 2013 and obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from HKUST in 2014. Subsequently, he worked as a Research Associate at the same institute and joined the School of Life Sciences of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) as a Principle Investigator with the support of “Pioneer Hundred Talents Program” from Chinese Academy of Sciences in March, 2016. The core spirit of Dr. Wang’s research work is to explore the working mechanisms of vital fundamental biology questions by combinational usages of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and structural biology (including X-ray and NMR) approaches. Dr. Wang systematically studied a family of scaffold proteins that play essential roles in organizing diverse protein complex in excitable tissues of human, named ”Ankyrins”. His research work has been widely recognized by the international researchers in the related field.

Research Interest:

Neuronal Structural Biology

1) Biochemical and structural biology of neuronal signaling protein complex organization and regulation;

2) Scaffolding proteins regulating neuronal cell polarity and the balance of neuro circuits

3) Molecular mechanisms of common psychiatric disorders and potential therapeutic drug discovery
