    Personal Profile

    Dr. Jia-Rui Wu graduated in Dept. of Biology of Zhongshan University in Guangzhou in 1982, received a master degree from Institute of Genetics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing in 1985, and a doctor degree from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1994. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Health Science Center of State University of New York from 1994-1997. Since then, he become a professor in Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry in Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai. Now he is a vice-president of Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the chair of Department of Systems Biology, University of Science and Technology of China.

    Research Interests

    My Lab has concentrated on two major topics in the areas of systems biology. First, we are interested in the structure and function of molecular networks for cell fate determination among cell differentiation, cell proliferation and apoptosis, particularly I would like to ask that how cells inter-regulate cell proliferation and differentiation, which is a key to understand the behaviors of stem cells and the development of multi-cellular organisms.

    Secondly, we are interested in the analysis of the complex diseases such as cancer and diabetes based on the research strategy of systems biology. We have developed systematic approaches based on proteomics and bioinformatics to analyze human normal and diabetic serum. In addition, I have planed to analyze the genetic and environmental factors and their interactions during the progressing of the type 2 diabetes.
